How do i get out of this situation?

So im with this guy (gay yes) and we are haivn gsome trouble. We love each other, get along but we just dont have the same interests. Like we are night and day and just dont have very much we can do together. I think its time to part amicably and be friends for life. I want me to be happy and him to be happy. He deserves someone who loves him and shares his interests as do i. The problem is he has had bad bfs in the past and though he has admitted to being unhappy refuses to consider the fact that we may be better off without me. What can I do? He isnt willing to talk about it.
