Would you stay friends with an ex if things ended amicably?

I was with a guy for 2 months and he dumped me. We ended things nicely, and we haven't spoken for close to a month now. I'm going to give it another month until maybe I talk to him again and try to be friends. When I think about it, he doesn't make a good boyfriend for me, anyway. He was a very insecure person, always asking me why I liked him (when we dated) and I kept reassuring him that I like him and that he shouldn't feel embarrassed for being himself around me. But anyway... Wold you stay friends with an ex if things ended amicably? I feel kinda bad for him because his life isn't exactly super perfect at the moment and I know where he's at with the whole social anxiety thing (I'm like that as well), and he made me laugh and happy as a friend before we dated so yeah. :/ What do you think?
