I filed a domestic incident report against my boyfriend, but I would like to drop the charges.What should I do?

Hi, I filed a domestic incident report against my ex-boyfriend after a massive argument. We both have issues with anger management and at that time I really wanted to hurt him so I called the police. He has apologized and we have decided to end the relationship amicably. So I have decided to not follow up and get an order of protection. I got a call from the detective today asking me about the police report. What should I do? Will I get into trouble :( ? How long will the police report be on file?
