No, don't contact him. Writing to him won't change his attitude towards you, if anything it will make it worse. You don't need his permission to see your old friends again anyway. But, it's pretty clear that these people chose him over you. If he does decide to be petty and disrespectful they will probalby take his side. I would forget them and move on.
